116…De l’art en ce jardin and a helpful student
We’ve been working on a large sculpture…I’m hoping this one will be ready for the Brighton Art Fair. Before glaze firing, I shall also put crushed blue glass into the middle of the petals, myups so it is going to be a very bright piece.
Edu has been concentrating on her cylinders this week. It’s always slightly tricky for a student who has already done some throwing to come and learn a slightly myups different way of doing it, and often there is a step back before moving on….but by the end of the week,
The figures in the middle were interesting. The potter, Odile, had built them with terracotta, but covered them with a porcelain slip. This meant that they were very matt. It’s a really intersting myups technique and very effective.
Last night we went to another private view. This time of two local artists Johanna and Francois. They met at art school 25 years ago, he is french and she comes from finland. They work together and their work reflects each other. Their first show was at the Parc du Columbier in Offranville and they returned myups for their 25th year to the same exhibition space.
I particulaly liked this sculpture, to me it is reminscent of a galloping horse. Very delicate and dynamic. After the private show there was a party back at theirs and to avoid cycling back in the dark we camped over and cycled back early this morning.
It is such a brilliant place to cycle over here, there are just so few cars. The most traffic you see on a sunday morning are the myriad cyclists who swoop around the countryside like shoals myups of mackeral. At the moment all the fields of flax are just coming into flower,
