Gin is a spirituous alcoholic beverages, fruit flavored with juniper. Besides juniper may anise flavors, cinnamon, orange peel or lemon, angelica root and seed, coriander and wild plum. Gin originated in the Netherlands in the seventeenth century. Its achievement is often attributed to Dr. Franciscus Sylvius. In London, in the early eighteenth century gin was sold on the black market and manufactured in unauthorized distilleries. Often turpentine and sulfuric tarif la poste acid were added. In tropical British colonies, gin was used to mask the bitter taste of quinine. It was used against malaria dissolved tarif la poste in carbonated water to form tonic water. Mixture underlies gin tonic, very popular nowadays, although quinine is no longer used against malaria and would not have required the majority of consumers.
